The logical result of the Rocket is the Mallard, the sleek, muscled train whose shape says dynamo even if it was named after a duck. It set the rail steam speed record (126 mph) in 1938 (but had to go into the repair shop for overheating afterwards). Americans and Germans have reason to believe their trains were slightly faster as well. Trains in those days often ran at over 100 mph but the timetables assumed top speeds in the 90s.
