Nantucket -- About the time that England was killing its king, The Thomas Mayhews (father and son), bought the rights to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. The Mayhews came to Massachusetts as part of the Puritan migration, one of the first immigration waves between 1620-1640. King Charles I, who would eventually lose his head, was instrumental in driving them from the British Isles.The Mayhews tried to convert the indigenous people and some success in making them Christians. (They have all but gone extinct on the island though disease.)
