Nantucket -- The sheep overgrazed the island, causing permanent change to the fauna. Today this scrubland of the ecosystem is managed through prescribed burning and mowing.Before sheep, the large "moors" we see on today's Nantucket were scrub forests with the plains restricted to a few hundred yards inland from the shore which would occasionally coat the nearby land with salt spray.
