Nantucket -- But if you want evidence of how scarce wood was in Nantucket, check this 1694 house which was moved from the original settlement at Sherburne to the new town in 1746 after the original harbor silted up. (Houses today still cannot be torn down on Nantucket without the owner first offering to pay to have it moved to another site.)Note also the fanlight plaque at the far right which gives the history of the house including it being built by a Macy ancestor of the department store founder. This was the type of home sea captains would own, in this case Reuben Joy for the 1st half of the 19th century. Nice, but not in the league with those who owned the ships.
