We arrived at the Olympic National Park office just after they closed -- but our fearless leader Paul convinced them to issue us our permits anyway. From there we traveled to the trailhead for the paths of the Sol duc River valley. The park is about the size of Rhode Island (almost a million acres) with few roads. At that point, we emptied the contents of our car trunk onto the parking lot and repacked our packs for the hike in. Here's Paul preparing medicine to be used to mitigate the brothers' requisite carping (and we don't mean fishing) at the end of the hike.
