Hoh Rain Forest, Olympic National Park

Our morning nature hike (without backpacks) lasted a couple of hours.  The rain forest is pretty much level so the trek was fairly easy.  Despite trees continually crashing to the ground, the Park Service does a good job of keeping trails open, usually by cutting logs out of the way.  (Since the soil is so rich in nutrients and water so plentiful with 12-14 feet of rain per year, the trees get lazy and don't send their roots out as far as they should.  Hence, they are a bit unstable in high winds.)

In this case, the path maintenance crew merely created a stairway over this fallen log.
