The door above leads to the small village filled with distractions for
the tourists; penitents can buy rough ropes with knotted ends to
be used as whips as well as mesquite crowns of thorns.
The complex had many buildings to house the pilgrims...
...many, as seen in these next few pictures, have collapsed and are probably beyond restoration.
Light at the end of this tunnel --- but not much else.
The church beyond has been restored but the ruins, when seen from a certain angle, are a bit disconcerting.
