Nantucket -- Owners would expand their cottages with simple lean-tos called "warts."One of those 49ers was James Folger whose ancestors came to Nantucket from Norwich, England, in the 1600s. Three brothers arrived in San Francisco with only enough money to get 2 of them to the mines. So 15-year-old James Folger stayed behind and was hired as a carpenter by a coffee entrepreneur. Eventually Folger bought out his boss. A century later, Procter & Gamble bought the company and made it the top selling brand in the US.
