After leaving the trailhead, we ventured to the Sol Duc Hot Springs, a part of the park and soaked in the various pools for a while. Next we proceeded down Highway 101 to Kalaloch Lodge. The Lodge sits on some of the 73 miles of Pacific Coast that make up the park (but are non-contiguous with the rest of Olympic National Park). The lodge property includes many cabins: Below Michael sits outside one of our three cabins. After three intense days in the wild, these were a rustic pleasure. This one had its own yard just above the long Pacific Beach, a living room with wood burning fireplace (furnished with logs), two bedrooms and a kitchen. The others were less elegant but highly functional.
